The rubbish at the dump is mild compared to Wikipedia:talk:Encyclopædia Dramatica or a Google on "Sherrod Degrippo" - I still can't make head nor tail of this. Why would a supposed computer security expert build a teenybopper-style LiveJournal fan site, use realname publically on whois, then go off on a DMCA-abuse rampage both here and at Wikipedia in response to that name appearing in the respective encyclopædia Dramatica articles? Editing from an IP belonging to US Department of Energy in Nevada to try to get rid of the realname info, and multiple Wikipedia handles (encydra, encydra2...) with the same edit pattern (remove site owners name from wikipedia:Encyclopediadramatica, unlink image, spew spurious DMCA nonsense) isn't dramatic, it's stupid. How about a 1000 Uncyclopedians Typing Hamlet article? The contents of all deleted articles can go into this article. I don't understand what this guy is trying to say. Is he trying to imply that the term "rapist" is a race-exclusive term? Blacks are hardly the only race that has rapists. In fact, there are other "You gonna get raped" images on the Internet, and the men featured in such images vary in race. Hell, there's one with Mario. You might want to study the history of racism in the United States. You might find that there is a meme of black man as rapist, often used to justify lynchings of random people (random except for their skin color). Don't expect everyone elses experiences to be analogous to your own limited experience. The fact that there are other images doesn't really lessen the impact of this particular message. It's common practice here for Sysops to delete (some) pages without consulting other users or admins. Most of the stuff that is deleted without going through VFD is truly irredeemable garbage, and QVFD exists largely for regular users to list such pages so that they are visible to admins, not necessarily to open them up for voting (though it's not unusual for an admin or other user to move a page from QVFD to regular VFD). Do you have any idea how worthless and cluttered this site would be if every page had to go through VFD before being deleted? Thanks for getting back to me on that. And you're right, there does seem to be a great deal of stupid stuff. Still, I wonder: what are the guidelines, if any, for instant deletion? Is it completely arbitrary? Also, what is the policy for redirects? Can a sysop redirect articles to his own articles for the purposes of attention whoring? (Example: Kevin_Mitnick) This last seems to be an abuse of powers, since it forecloses on anyone from writing on the topic of Kevin Mitnick. What is to stop a sysop from redirecting a bunch of related words in order to monopolize a topic?

I'd say the guidelines for instant deletions are the same as the QVFD guidelines. The vast majority of instant deletions are very short pages - even horrifically bad pages are usually VFD'd if they're more than a few sentences. If I come across a short page that I think has no worth and no potential whatsoever, I'll delete it; but if I see a page that, say, offends me personally or is about a subject that I find boring or inherently unfunny, then no, I won't delete it because there's a good possibility someone else would have a laugh over it. Now, other admins can review deleted pages (i.e. see the deleted contents) and restore them if they want, so there is the possibility of some review that way. I think most admins would also be reasonable if asked to restore a deleted page by a regular user - I've done it before and I know some other guys have too. Finally, redirects can be done by any user, not just admins (the command is "#REDIRECT [[(page to redirect to)]]") and they can be overridden by clicking on the "Redirected from [[(page)]]" link and editing from there. So presumably redirects can be controlled in the same way as any other element of a wiki - by having many users iron them out.

These, of course, are just my views. Other admins may have differing stances on the issues.
