DC is an abbreviation, that much is certain. What is uncertain is what the reader is seeking to abbreviate. There are several possibilities:

  • It could mean Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States. In this confection, DC stands for District of Columbia, a reference to explorer Christopher Columbus, who sailed up the Potomac to the site, got his hair braided in one of the city's salons, and bought some fresh Afghani bread for his sailors.
  • It could refer to the proposed state of D.C., it being not enough to give D.C.'s federal workers three electoral votes but they now need their own Congressmen and Senators, sheesh. If this proposal succeeds, the new state will certainly not still reference Columbus, who had toxic caucasity and was probably a transphobe. DC will in this case stand for the District of Che Guevara.
  • It could refer to DC Comics, a brand of adventure comics with more heroism than there is in the District, but which also has a few comedy comics with more laughs than occur in the District either.
  • It (or D&C) could refer to Dilation and Curettage, a popular form of abortion, dilation being a gentle method of accessing the worksite.
  • It could refer to the Democrat and Courier, a newspaper in Rochester, New York that physicians also refer to as the D&C.
