So APPARENTLY soon we will be able to use facebook connect to edit uncyclopedia*! I mean, as if we're not spoiled enough by ability to edit using nothing but your IP, people will be able to vandalise using their real actual name! Finally! Where do I begin? Ah, yes. How can Wikia know if something is a Good Idea or not without trying it out first with their current userbase?

And we're not their entire current userbase. We're one wiki on a wiki-farm. Facebook is becoming rather prevalent in all aspects of the Internet, to the point where if I visit a relatively high-traffic site and it doesn't have Facebook Connect or something of the sort I'm honestly surprised. So from that standpoint, it actually seems like a reasonable business decision to me.

We have absolutely no way of knowing whether this will be a positive or negative benefit for all users involved. Perhaps it'll take away a bit of that anonymity of the Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory. Perhaps it'll suck balls and break everything. We just don't know.

Neither does Wikia! But when every other major player on the Internets is using a feature, it's probably a good idea to at least try. And it's not gonna kill us to put up with Facebook Connect (if it happens). We can still login and be ourselves just as normal. It's only another way of providing user accounts.

Just to be clear on this - we are currently trying it out on a couple of wikis, and I don't know how available it will be for Uncyclopedia at this point. It may not work for Monobook wikis, and Uncyc's separate user database may be a problem. So don't go getting too excited now. Frankly, Facebook is millions of times more evil than Wikia, in the grand scheme of things. I mean, sure, Wikia has broken promises, but Facebook has openly courted trust only to backstab their users through repeated information rape. Therefore, I'm actually not upset at Wikia for this, as they probably had their arms twisted in some monstrously one-sided back door negotiation orchestrated by Facebook. While I agree that Facebook is a privacy-raping hack organization, I don't have any idea what connection they could possibly have with Wikia. Facebook has launched tools that allow other sites to connect with it more easily than ever, and now Facebook integration is everywhere.
