I do have the right to have removed work which I have performed. Among the terms in the license: "The above rights include the right to make such modifications as are technically necessary to exercise the rights in other media and formats." I'm not looking for an out on each article, I'm looking to purge my work. Please do so. Respectfully, --66.251.24.193 21:11, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
Subject to the above terms and conditions, the license granted here is perpetual (for the duration of the applicable copyright in the Work). Notwithstanding the above, Licensor reserves the right to release the Work under different license terms or to stop distributing the Work at any time; provided, however that any such election will not serve to withdraw this License (or any other license that has been, or is required to be, granted under the terms of this License), and this License will continue in full force and effect unless terminated as stated above.

Further, edits were made on the pages by other users to which this license applies. Unfortunately it is not possible to retroactively terminate the license granted. --Chronarion 21:19, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

  • Hey, I wrote that article. At least the second half anyway. Why should this article which at least has some comedic quality to it, be deleted when there are countless articles on this site that deserve deletion ten times as much? • Comment: At the risk of turning this molehill into a mountain, I think this points to a larger problem. A lot of first-time contributors find Uncyclopedia via music-related web forums, usenet, mailing lists, etc., and their first impulse is to write something about their favorite recording artist. But writing really funny articles about rock stars strikes me as really hard to pull off, especially if you're a first timer and aren't used to the culture around here. (I myself have tried to edit Frank Black and Ramones, and I'm not happy with either of them, either.) Not to mention that you can easily upset people whose favorite musicians are like sacred cows.
And I don't mean to single out BirdEgal202, either - at least he (or she?) is trying. I just spent a good 45 minutes looking at some of the other articles in Category:Musicians, and about 75 percent of them are crap, no better than this one, and many are worse. It's deplorable. I'm even thinking about proposing a "Featured Artist" box on the main page, if only to give some incentive to established contributors to go and improve some of these things. Anyway, sorry to vent, I'll get off the soapbox now.  c • > • cunwapquc? 01:41, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
  • I agree with Some_user, it's really not good. Music-related ones are always going to be difficult to do, and I also call for a featured artist on the main page. This one can be lacerated in the pits of hell though--Joeoco 21:43, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

ToblerONE

and its subpages (ToblerONE/conspiracy theories and ToblerONE/crew diaries)

Discussion copied from User talk:Muffinscope to help with voting:

This article and its sub-articles appear to be some sort of inside joke with a lot of vanity references and as such have been nominated to Uncyclopedia:Pages for deletion. If you would like the article can be saved as a personal page by moving it to User:Muffinscope/ToblerONE; I will probably do so for you if it is voted for deletion. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 19:39, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Hello there. Since your own talk page mentions not replying there, hopefully you will see this message soon. I have a point I'd like to make regarding the toblerONE page that you listed for deletion, and a question to ask.
First off regarding "vanity," I would like to mention that the user name was chosen specifically because it was a key point in the article (and not the other way around, i.e. it's a key point in the article because it's my username, which would be vanity). I don't know if you'd still consider it vanity in this case, but it does change the scenario. We (there were four writers) only created the username so we could upload the various images, hence the username being based off the article.
Secondly, you list it for deletion because it "seems to be another fantasy world sort of thing." Could you please point me in the direction of the elements of the article that lead you to believe this is about some sort of fantasy world? There are plenty of Uncyclopedia articles about time travel, which is the only major stretch the article makes, in my opinion.
I apologize that you find it stupid and not funny. We put a lot of effort into it, and it does make a lot of (in fact, it is mostly) inside jokes. Because of that, it probably will not be saved, but I like to think that at least some people will see the humor in it, or catch the references (they're not just inside jokes to my circle of friends, there are inside jokes to things that potentially plenty of readers will catch).
Thank you for your time. Muffinscope 00:03, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
Two other points I want to make (and I hope you respond to these soon) regarding the inside joke status of the page. First, if inside jokes are seriously that frowned upon, why is there an entire category devoted to them? Secondly, I'd like to point out that large parts of the article are not inside jokes (for example, the conspiracy theory section should be fairly universally understandable and funny). I would appreciate it if you responded to these points soon. Thank you. Muffinscope 17:58, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
Whether anything is "funny" or not is a subjective and not an objective measurement (hence voting, of course) so I can only offer my personal thoughts, Muffinscope. I find it difficult to pay attention and read all of toblerONE because the jokes have little connection to pre-defined cultural objects. Articles are short compared even to short stories. There is no time to develop characters and situations. Therefore many successful articles rely on readers' pre-defined mental images of well-known people and things. It's one thing to say "Peter danced into the meeting wearing a slinky black evening gown" and another thing to say "Chairman Mao danced onto the UN podium wearing a slinky black evening gown." It's mildly interesting that someone we don't know went to a meeting we haven't yet visualized wearing women's clothing, but most of us know about pudgy puffy Mao and the UN, and we therefore have pre-defined imagery for the scene. OK. So toblerONE is, in my personal opinion, trying to do the job of a comic science-fiction story on a site devoted to a much different kind of comic writing. Remember, a 500-word short story is incredibly short but a 500-word article is a pretty long one.----OEJ 13:54, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Ok, I'm willing to accept the possibility that I just don't get it, which happens sometimes but it really does seem like an inside joke to me. In general, inside jokes are frowned upon; Category:Inside jokes primarily contains jokes that are inside to Uncyclopedia and funny to the general public (Kitten Huffing, AAAAAAAAA!, etc.) or that are inside to admins and manage to sleeze past policies (Edit War (video game), Fisher Price, etc.). Based on my analysez of toblerONE and the possibility that I might be wrong or other people would find it funny, I put it up on vfd and as such it's no longer a matter for me to make executive decisions about. I strongly recommend weighing your case on vfd and seeing how other people feel about the matter. Thanks and I hope this can be resolved amicably. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 19:32, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

As a weasel, and a wild weasel at that, I would like to add my two purloined chicken eggs to this discussion, if I may.
Although I've only been active here a couple of months, I've been getting a feel for the flow of this wiki, an impression of what works and what doesn't work and why it is uncyclopedians vote thumbs up or thumbs down for things.
The core mission here is comedy. When you break down any one article, you must, must go back to the unwritten mantra "would someone besides the author and perhaps their friends get this?" When we say "fantasy world", we mean a fabricated world with a tenuous grasp on "reality" that is (and don't be offended, Muffinscope crew) essentially nonsense. Now, the idea of a toblerone flying around through time with a crew having adventures has potential, but when you start bringing in muffinscopes and what not, there's no frame of reference.
A while ago, there was an issue with Sercia and recently the Uber-Loki family et al, because they made little sense to outside observers. I don't remember what became of Sercia, but the Ubers were taken by their author to his user page. And I suggest you do the same - whatever the hell you guys want to do there is your own business, and us jerks out here in the shark tank can't make snarky comments about how "we don't get it."
Surprising how serious the business of comedy can be, eh? 2nd lt. sir wild weasel kun vfh fp20:14, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
Further commentary -- Sercia et al. were huffed, and the author banned for two weeks for failure to respond to numerous admin communiques/failure to update the articles. I don't think that such will be the case here, but I have to agree with Weasel & Gwax -- to the outside observer, there's really not much here to grab on to, and thus the global humor of the article is somewhat lacking. Clearly this is a labor of love, and quite wacky at that, so I'd hate to see it destroyed. I wouldn't mind seeing this turn into a serial on your user page, but if it remains in the general population, I'm afraid that it will only wind up here again. --The King In Yellow (Talk to the Dalek.) 20:23, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

  • Delete or move to user page. This seems to be another fantasy world sort of thing and as such falls against our policies on fantasy worlds. Additionally, all the discussion of the Muffinscope, whilst the main contributor is User:Muffinscope, makes the page seem like a vanity page. On top of those reasons, I find it to be a stupid and not funny use of the Toblerone name. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 19:06, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
FYI the Muffinscope user was created just for the purpose of this page. I don't know what exactly that changes. 160.39.236.156 23:39, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

There's a policy against fantasy worlds? What about things like the Great_Time_Travel_War_of_1871? Also (from HTBFANJS): "it's incoherent across a large span of history. This is Good." I thought this was an endorsement of fantasy worlds (as long as they're funny).128.59.34.148 04:46, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

  • Move to user page. I almost voted for "deletion" when I saw the mis-quote of Bauhaus (it's TELEGRAM SAM!) but I can forgive some things. Still, it's clearly an inside joke. --The King In Yellow (Talk to the Dalek.) 19:10, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

  • Move to user page--Bradaphraser 22:57, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
  • Remake/Remodel - If this were reformulated as, say, Joint Swiss-American Space Program, with the focus changed to the inevitable culture-clash, I think you'd have a major improvement with relatively little effort. Right now this looks like the authors were trying to write a parody of a parody of a bad sci-fi TV series, or a Wikipedia page about same, or something to that effect. They've basically just out-thought themselves... That doesn't happen too often around here, but we should at least appreciate the effort, and either way this is still a lot better than the sort of "Moogawooga the Platypus God is the Most Powerful Being in the Universe and PWNS NOOBS without mercy" dreck it's being (implicitly) compared to. And KiY, Bauhaus covered that one; it was originally a T.Rex song. --Some user 00:47, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
  • Move to user page Neoliminal 19:49, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
  • User:Muffinscope seems not to be paying any attention and has not said anything regarding moving the article to a user page so in short order I'm just going to delete it and if anyone complains it can be restored. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 01:16, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
I was just under the impression that once a decision was made, you would take care of the move. In the original message you left on my talk page, you said "f you would like the article can be saved as a personal page by moving it to User:Muffinscope/ToblerONE; I will probably do so for you if it is voted for deletion." This is why I have not taken the action with it, I just assumed that once the discussion ran its course, you would have done the moving. I was in fact paying very close attention to the discussion, but stayed out of it because I already made my points, and wanted to see what everyone else had to say. Muffinscope 17:19, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
And so it shall be, moved to User:Muffinscope/ToblerONE. My previous comment was because we've had cases where a discussion like this arises and then we never hear from the user again. Thanks for being reasonable about this (a rarity in this line of work). --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 06:04, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

    • That said, it is crap and was created in reference to somebody complaining that people were likely to go and write a crappy article exactly like that. So, I of course wrote the initial version of that article. I would love it if someone could expand/rewrite it but I expect the odds are low and I'm way too busy to write something decent myself. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 05:54, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
  • Delete. That was me, and I wasn't complaining, gwax - I was just saying that "ToblerONE" was better than most vanity articles, and it had nothing to do with the likelihood that more people might write them... I'm sorry to say that Moogawooga really is deletable now, mostly because of the crappy illustration, which IMO sent it well over the line from "clever inside joke" into "stupid bit of dreck." It would still have looked like a vanity piece to someone not in on the joke, but since you're in on it, do at least check my version out if you haven't already - I don't expect anyone else to get it, but to me this is the funniest page on the whole website, and getting funnier.
