Obi-Wan Kenobi is a Disney+ miniseries set in the Star Wars universe. Set ten years after Revenge of the Sith, the show follows Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine. It was set to release on May 25, 2022, but due to some internal discussion, it was then pushed back two days, and on the 27th; the first two episodes released side-by-side as compensation for the fans waiting an extra 48 hours.

Premise[edit]

Ten in-universe years (but 17 out-of-universe years) after the memetic events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, in which the Jedi and Galactic Republic were destroyed by Order 66 and Obi-Wan Kenobi's whiny apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, became the Galactic Empire's badass Sith Lord Darth Vader, Kenobi is on Tatooine watching over Anakin's son Luke. Hiding in exile, Kenobi lives a solitary life in his hut drinking Jawa Juice and watching the Nuna-ball game on pirated HoloNet cable.

Meanwhile, Vader has set up the Sith Inquisitors program, a group of Dark Side Force users who wear outfits that make them look like non-Force-using stormtroopers, to hunt and destroy any Jedi that weren't already hunted down and destroyed in Order 66. Obi-Wan is forced out of hiding when he is called on a mission to rescue Anakin's child prodigy daughter, Leia, after she is kidnapped by the Inquisitors in a plot to draw Kenobi out. This leads to a confrontation between Kenobi and Vader, even though they aren't supposed to meet again until the Death Star fight in Episode IV: A New Hope.

Production[edit]

The first iteration of the show was conceived in 2015 as the first of the anthology films but was scraped for Rogue One (2016) and Solo (2018). The idea was on the back burner until 2019 when the success of The Mandalorian proved that Disney+ Star Wars shows could be very profitable. Much like Andrew Garfield denying his part in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Ewan McGregor was forced to deny rumors of a Kenobi movie or show for over seven years but as Ewan is a good actor, managed to convince fans that a Kenobi project was not in the works.

Teaser poster[edit]

Ewan McGregor was unable to attend the show's pre-release photoshoot. So, they zoomed the photo outwards, in order to try and trick fans into not being able to tell that it's just a cardboard cutout of the actor in front of a green screen.

Change of villain/s[edit]

Before Darth Vader and the Inquisitors were the main villians for the show, Darth Maul (played on set by Ray Park and voiced by Sam Witwer in post, as was the case in Solo) was originally the series villain. This was later scraped after Peter Serafinowicz got into a fist fight with Witwer in a so-called "(voice) battle to the death". Witwer was declared the winner after using his Starkiller Force skills to trap Serafinowicz inside of a bubble.

The offical responce by Lucasfilm to the removal of Maul, however, was that it would "break canon" with the plot of Star Wars Rebels, mainly with the episode where an old Ben Kenobi duels and kills Maul after the former Darth learnt that Luke Skywalker was alive. Despite this, Obi-Wan Kenobi in only its first three episodes has already broke canon in more ways than one.

The Prequel Trilogy gets an emotional recap, then cut to Order 66 for the 5th time. The Inquistors land on Tatooine looking for a Jedi who is just chilling at a bar. Obi-Wan is now working at a fish market, saying "Hello there ladies" while listening to the song "Crazy Rap (Colt 45)" by Afroman. Obi-Wan, now going by Obi-Won because he won the fight on Mustafar against Anakin turned Vader — but most people just call him Ben to hide his former Jedi identity. Ben then buys a toy from a Jawa who stole parts from Bens' cave, only to sell him the parts back. He then gives the toy to a young Luke Skywalker who is seen playing with the toy in A New Hope. Cut to Alderaan and we see a young Princess Leia. She is playing around, climbing trees, and got someone to pretend to be her for a whole dressing montage. Skipping a few things, Leia is then kidnapped in a plot to lure Obi-Wan Kenobi to come and rescue her. This works. So, Ben wanders into the desert, starts to dig, and pulls out a box containing his and Anakin's lightsabers — as since Anakin hates sand, he would never find them there.

Ben then goes to the space bus station and catches a space transport ship to go and find Leia, before showing off his lightsaber to the camera for the audience despite if someone saw him do this, they would of dobbed him in to the Empire, ending the series before the second episode.

Ben lands and donates some credits to a homeless 501st Clone Trooper, despite the fact that the 501st Legion were the ones who stormed the Jedi Temple and killed them all during Order 66 — but Obi-Wan's a nice guy so he wasn't going to let this Clone die of hunger, now was he?

Anyway, he pulls a Hisenburg and goes to a space meth lab to find Leia locked inside a storage room. But plot twist! It isn't actually Leia but a bundle of hay dressed in her clothes. The kidnappers come and explain their plan about how it was all a set-up to lure Obi-Wan out into the open and how Reva, the Third Sister, wants to hand him over herself to Lord Vader.

Obi-Wan pulls a Batman and escapes, finding the real Leia locked inside another storage locker. They then change clothes, where Leia sees that Obi-Wan has a lightsaber, and then it's Star Wars Rebels all over again asking if he's a Jedi and if he can do some cool things with the Force. Leia then runs off, thinking that Ben isn't a real Jedi Knight, and is the real kidnapper. Of course, this makes no sense, and makes for a chase scene that although stupid, is still better than the slow moped chase in The Book of Boba Fett.

Leia falls off a building, so Ben uses the force for the first time in ten years, making a reference to a line made earlier in the episode. Obi-Wan and Leia make it to a ship but the Third Sister shows up after using a Sith Mind-Reading-Force-Trick on some random famous actor cameo. Reva then tells Obi-Wan that she knows that Anakin Skywalker is Darth Vader, and the fact that Vader survived their duel on Mustafar. This shocks Ben, as he thought his old Padawan was dead. The Grand Inquistor then shows up, but Reva stabs him, making the entirety of Star Wars Rebels non-canon? As how could that series happen, if the Grand Inquistor dies at the end of the first season of that show?

Ben and Leia then get to the ship and fly off, while Reva shouts some line about how Vader is coming for him — before cutting to the man himself. Vader is seen in all his white glory (in a non-racist way) inside a bacta tank.
3 "Part III" Deborah ChowJoby Harold, Hannah Friedman, Hossein Amini, and Stuart BeattieJune 1, 2022  (2022 -06-01)

Darth Vader gets his own suiting-up montage like it was an episode of Power Rangers. Obi-Wan and Leia land and get to the meet-up point given to him by one of the Eternals. Instead, they hitch a ride from Fred and have to carpool with some Stormtroopers. After almost blowing his cover, Ben makes the fiftieth double entendre of the season, even though it's only the third episode, which then makes the Stormtroopers believe their story again. The Stormtroopers get off at their stop and Fred takes Ben and Leia to a checkpoint that has, you guessed it; more Stormtroopers. A Probe Droid comes and is about to probe Ben up the bum, but Ben shoots its eye and the Stormtroopers — with one making his own Wilhelm scream before being cut in half. They then get rescued by a woman playing dress-up.

The woman then takes Ben and Leia to a house where they are about to enter a tunnel so that they could get to a ship and get off the planet. However, Vader shows up and Ben has a panic attack caused by the Force. Leia and the woman get to the tunnel while Obi-Wan takes on Vader — after running away the first two times. Vader then makes a bonfire and serves up Kenobi for the main course. Before he could turn Obi-Wan into a well-done steak, however, Ben is saved and the episode ends with Leia getting kidnapped (again) by the Third Sister.
4 "Part IV" Deborah ChowJoby Harold and Hannah FriedmanJune 8, 2022  (2022 -06-08)

Obi-Wan gets put into a tank. Not an Army one, but a bacta one. This heals his burns, while remembering his sick burns during the Clone Wars. Vader is also in the bacta tank — not the same one as Kenobi, but it looks like it. Kenobi and Tala then break into the Fortress Inquitioius which turns out to be a piece of cake — like super easy, barely an inconvenience. Reva is questioning Leia and secretly plants a tracking device in Lola, which isn't revealed until the last seconds of the episode. Since Leia is the daughter of Anakin f*cking Skywalker, she is able to resist being Force mind probed. So, the Third Sister orders two Stormtroopers to take Leia to the Sith Sex Dungeon even though Leia is only 10. Kenobi is able to get to Leia in time and cuts off the dicks of the Stormtroopers. Leia and Kenobi run through the corridors and then for those that have played Jedi: Fallen Order, déjà vu kicks in when a Purge Trooper shoots the window and water comes in. Ben uses the Force to block the cracks, instead of using the classic Disney trope of using all of his fingers to fill in the holes. Ben then uses a classic Disney trope to hide Leia underneath his long overcoat, despite looking like he has four legs — how does nobody see this??!

Two soon-to-be Rebel speeders show up and rescue the trio but the one piloted by Deadpool gets blown up and everybody gets sad even though he was very annoying. The other pilot gets drunk, Leia holds Bens hand, and Lola gets a red eye.
5 "Part V" Deborah ChowJoby Harold and Andrew StantonJune 15, 2022  (2022 -06-15)

Vader has a flashback to Attack of the Clones where he as an obiviously older Anakin playing a younger version of himself, is practise dueling Kenobi — and everyone on Twitter rejoices. Lola then switches sides and closes the hanger door on them and Reva along with two shuttles of Stormtroopers go down to get them; instead of using their entire fucking Star Destroyer to blow them to smithereens, but that would be too easy wouldn't it? So, Kenobi pieces together that Reva was a youngling at the Jedi Temple during Order 66 and that he and her should join forces (pun intended) to take down Vader.

After a bit of fighting, and Tala blowing herself up with a thermal detonator; instead of throwing it at the Stormtroopers and Reva; Kenobi uses the same flashback to predict Vaders next move. When Vader comes down himself, he takes a page out of his now non-canon apprentice, Starkiller, and uses the Force to stop and crash a flying ship; even though the shuttle is much smaller than an Imperial Star Destroyer. After being bamboozled of taking down the wrong ship, Reva takes on Vader and dies....

Nope. She JUST HAS TO LIVE. It's revealed that Vader knew that Reva was at the Temple when he first 'killed' her and that the Grand Inquistitor is not actually dead and that he was just filming a prank show. At least that now brings Rebels back into canon.
6 "Part VI" Deborah ChowStuart Beattie, Joby Harold, Andrew Stanton, and Hossein AminiJune 22, 2022  (2022 -06-22)

Episode starts off mirroring A New Hope but the Tantive IV has been replaced with a transport shuttle. In order to save everybody, Kenobi steals a smaller transport shuttle (that was inside the other transport shuttle — shuttle transport inception?). Anyway, Vader follows in his white shuttle and tells the new-but-former-dead-but-now-alive Grand Inquistior to leave the others despite, that the Star Destroyer could of followed them while Vader chased after Kenobi like he was a piece of juicy meat. Vader and Kenobi land on a bad CGI green-screened planet and start to duel. Meanwhile, Reva has somehow managed to get to Tatooine (without dying and without a ship) and Owen and Beru set up defences around the farm like Balloon Tower Defence. Luke hides away saying a line from Empire Strikes Back. Vader finally gets the high ground when he causes a fucking force-earthquake and burries Obi-Wan with some rocks and stones. For some reason, Vader thinks this has killed Kenobi and starts to walk away. But surprise! Kenobi is alive and sneaks up behind the Sith Lord and they start to duel again. Reva chases after Luke and knocks him out when she roofied him using the Force. Somebody call the Space Police; oh wait, they want Reva dead too, despite their second-in-command leader already thinking he killed her.

Kenobi then takes a page out of Ahsoka's book from Star Wars Rebels (even though that show takes place four years after this), when he slices Vaders' helmet and reveals the burnt Anakin below the mask. Obi-Wan starts to cry and walks away? Yeah. He just walked away instead of finishing the job. But hey, the OT has gotta OT.

Back on Alderaan, Leia now has some cowboy boots and Tala's holster that somehow didn't get turned to atoms when she blew herself up with the thermal detonator last episode. Ben returns Lola and gives some more fan-service. The episode then ends with Kenobi saying the line that we all wanted since the first episode and that was teased at in Part III. Even though this was supposed to be a limited series, I guess we can now say "Hello there" to season two.

Reception[edit]

Jar Jar Binks did not reprise his role in the series. Meeesa soooo happy!

Fans are both hyped, and disappointed with Kenobi. Of course, it's about time Obi-Wan finally got his own show, but some believe it would of been better if it was set before The Phantom Menace. With The Book of Boba Fett set 90% of the time on Tatooine and two episodes of The Mandalorian set on the sand planet, fans do not want to watch one more minute of live-action Star Wars on it.

Additionally, the Grand Inquistitor from Star Wars Rebels makes his live action debut in the show (like how Cad Bane from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: The Bad Batch appeared in Book of Boba Fett). However, some fans expressed displeasure at how his head looks like a pumpkin and nothing like his cartoon counterpart, despite the fact that his species was seen in Revenge of the Sith.

Some fan theories include the return of Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn in force-ghost form and the return of Jar Jar Binks — although I don't think many would be happy with the latter choice.

Lucasfilm calls fans "racist"[edit]

After the two-episode premiere, a majority of fans were unhappy with the writing and character of Reva/Third Sister played by Maisy Ingrown Toenail. With 90% of these unhappy campers debating their dislike of the character in a civil mannar; making points of the poor acting skills and the fact that Reva knows that Darth Vader is Anakin Skywalker — something that only five people know prior to A New Hope, with Vader not knowing that two of those five know and the other two being Jedi in hiding. However, a few of these fans woke up and chose violence; sending nude rude messages to Moses on Instagram. Because of this, Lucasfilm and Disney decided to blame all the fans for being racist, rather than the handful of people who took their dislike of the character a bit too far. Perhaps this was because they forgot to listen to "The Distance".

Because of this, most fans have lost all hope for Disney Star Wars, despite the fact that they already said this when The Last Jedi came out.

Joby Harold has never seen Revenge of the Sith[edit]

In an interview for the release of "Part IV", head writer for Obi-Wan Kenobi, Joby Harold, revealed that he didn't even watch Star Wars Episode III before and during writing the show. Harold said this in a joking and nonchalant mannar, pissing off fans even more than when Robert Friend (live-action actor for the Grand Inquistitor) said that he didn't even watch Star Wars Rebels to prepare for his role. Later on, Friend revealed that he actually did watch Rebels but it seemed that it was just Disney Crisis Management trying to fix their PR.

Harold also never said that he didn't watch the third of the prequel films, but that he didn't know that Kenobi knew that Anakin became Vader, which happens in one of the best scenes in the movie; how could he of missed it?!?

Once again, fans are losing hope for Disney Star Wars, especially when their idiot "Lore Advisor", Pablo Hidalgo, is too busy making fun of real Star Wars fans on Twitter.
