I'm seeing some hints of potential support for the idea of renaming the QuoteUnquote section to Unquotable, if only for consistency with the other "Uncyclomedia" projects (which all have names like "UnNews," "UnMeta," UnWhatever). I would very much like for this to happen (I also think the new name would be a tad funnier), and I'll do as much of the work as necessary, though I'm hoping Hymie the Spelchek Bot can help with some a lot all of it.

It's a fairly substantive change, so if nobody minds, could we put this to a vote, uh... please?  c • > • cunwapquc? 00:29, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Comment: There actually was some discussion about it a long time ago, so I didn't want to say anything about this until I thought there was some popular support lurking about for the other name. (Sorry I didn't mention that, though!)  c • > • cunwapquc? 01:07, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Against

  • QuoteUnquote is funnier, and I believe there was a vote on it some time ago. Dawg_sig_2.gif 01:35, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Same reason. Why be a slave to conformity and change a decent name to a dull one? FreeMorpheme 11:54, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
  • I like the name "QuoteUnquote." Crazyswordsman 01:20, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Indifferent

And the winner is...

OK, I'm fairly satisfied that this constitutes what the Wikipedia folks would call a "consensus," and I'm just about ready to go ahead with this within the next 24-48 hours. Thanks to everyone for voting, and sorry to those of you who preferred to maintain the status quo... Don't worry, though, there are valuable consolation prizes waiting for you behind Door Number Three...

As for the issue of upper-casing the "Q," I'd prefer not to do that, if only because "Unquotable" is a real, usable word - unlike "UnNews" or "UnBestiary," for example. But everyone should feel free to upper-case the "Q" in main namespace content pages as you see fit, and I promise not to fuss about it. (What would happen if I did? Nothing, right?) What I intend to do initially, though, is make the existing bio page links look like this:

...Except in cases like Anonymous and God, which I'll probably just keep as "Making up Anonymous Quotes" and "Making up God Quotes." Anyone can change those too, though, and I won't fuss about that either. I'm usually not all that fussy about anything, actually, except maybe cheese. (The food, not the article.)

Last but not least, this is a fairly labor-intensive process, so if anyone wants to help, the tasks can be organized this-a-way:

  1. Move/edit support pages (such as Unquotable:Manual of Tackiness and Unquotable:Policies) - DONE
  2. Move/edit Main Page versions - DONE
  3. Move/edit Unquotable:NavTemplate - DONE
  4. Change existing "Making Up ___ Quotes" redirects - DONE (I hope)
  5. Move/edit content pages - DONE
  6. Fix/change direct links elsewhere on the site (see QuoteUnquote:Litterbox) - Done, except for userspace links

#QVFD all deprecated logo images (Overwrote existing logo images)

...Only the last of these ought to be done in sequence (i.e., last). And hopefully I won't leave any double-redirects lying around... I think I missed one last time, actually! Baaaad Some user!  c • > • cunwapquc? 19:12, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Hymie has done this with the zork pages. He should do this. --Sbluen 22:49, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
That would certainly be helpful... But Carlb's seems to have had a lot on his mind lately, and I didn't want to bother him. Still, I'll ask - maybe it's no big deal, really?  c • > • cunwapquc? 00:26, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Just as well that I did it manually - there were a few things that needed cleaning up in there anyway. And hey, I even added a new one, for all you Unintelligent Design fans! Thanks again for the votes, everybody!  c • > • cunwapquc? 09:38, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
