I've been making a few templates, seeing what they can do, and I have a couple of questions:

  • First, is it possible to include a template on a page without adding that page to the categories that the template tells it to be added to? Or is it possible to force a page not to be added to any categories?
  • Second, is it possible on Uncyclopedia to have default values for template parameters as per Wikipedia:Help:Template? It hasn't worked for me.

Thanks! Bloopy icon.png Bloopy 07:51, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

1. Yes, wrap the category tag in <noinclude></noinclude>, and you can have a category that only appears on the page with <includeonly></includeonly> (be sure not to have extra line returns in the template, except INSIDE the noinclude).
2. No, not until the upgrade to 1.6 I think.

Sorry, for 1. I meant without editing the template. Bloopy icon.png Bloopy 08:09, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
Subst: it in, and then edit out the category. --Splaka 08:12, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
Ok, that should work fine, thanks! Though it might be a nice feature to be able to make a page that doesn't go into any categories, or something similar. Bloopy icon.png Bloopy 08:15, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
By looking at the code of Uncyclopedia:Templates/Content management, I found out that categories are not included if a template is put inside a <choose><option></option></choose>. Bloopy icon.png Bloopy 14:15, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
That also has the effect of causing any choose/option tags within the individual templates to be ignored (so that every one of the multiple options, and the tags, become visible. --Carlb 17:26, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, and that's a very bad kludge anyway. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 19:56, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
