From Pee Review[edit]

This article is a what I believe to be the best State related article on the site, any way that it can be improved to the level of the featured articles "--RLXsig.jpg 23:33, 23 January 2007 (UTC).

Humour: 2 The jokes were few and far apart, and in a lot of cases, it's actually true. When I did see one, it was usually some random comment on cocks or cocaine. While yes, truth is funnier than downright nonsense, we're asking for a parody of truth, not a recounting of it. South Carolina is one fucked-up state, trust me, why can't you comment on that?
Concept: 8 Like I said, South Carolina is one fucked-up state...
Prose and formatting: 6 The prose was decent, well-written, clear. But really, that doesn't make it any funnier.
Images: 2 An unfunny picture can usually be made-up for by a funny caption. This article had neither. Try adding some, even if you have to look to other states' articles for inspiration.
Miscellaneous: 3 Randomly-placed cock jokes are not funny. They're just not.
Final Score: 21 One good thing I'll say about this page: so many people think they can contribute to an article about the state they live in or some TV show they watch; a few people making truly witty comments are good, but sometimes the accumulated bad edits just end up ruining the article. This hasn't happened too much, I think. the problem with this article is, it's just not funny. Period.

I agree with DiZ on this one. The problem is at least partly pacing: it is just flat dead boring to read a section like the one on "Economy". Although the facts may be spurious and even ridiculous the delivery falls flat. The lists of "Wealthiest Places" and "Facts" and "Famous People" are just barely more enjoyable than being on the business end of a dental drill.

I think the author's heart is in the right place -- just behind his sternum -- but he could perhaps benefit by studying comic technique. Read the Monty Python's Flying Circus sketches, watch the better Comedy Central stand-ups, read Pat McManus and James Thurber and Tim Cahill.

Look at delivery. Pacing. Flow.

Uncyc is not meant to be a place for outdoorsy anecdotes like those of McManus or ironic fin-de-whiskey essays like those of Thurber. BUT! It does require the author to entertain the reader. And that means that although the subject and form may be different, the comic techniques of the masters apply.

Actually, it's not easy to write an article on a city or a state or a country and make it cohesive and funny. There are an awful lot of awful articles out there.----OEJ 02:45, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

Shouldn't this talk page be deleted since the current article is nothing like it was in 2007? I would delete it if I didn't think I'd get banned as a result.

Added much later: Uncyclopedians are used to pages getting changed, and to posts no longer being relevant to the current text. Deleting posts to talk pages is still discouraged, and there's not enough here to merit an archive page. Spıke Ѧ 14:54 27-Jun-14

Not enough fucked up nonsense[edit]

Common people get with the fucking program.

Re-written[edit]

This article is a rewrite based on the 2007 form of this article. I believe the original writer was looking to create an alternate reality of South Carolina (other alternate realities:Kentucky and Massachusetts), so I elaborated on this concept. One will note that the South Carolina depicted in this article; a progressive, high-tech, wealthy kingdom ruled by a monarch is very opposite to the real thing. This article was never meant to be just another article about a southern state, therefore, this article should score at least a little bit of points for originality.--Athlete logo 2.jpg 02:19, May 27, 2014 (UTC)

Love the rewrite, I thought this article was good when I wrote it, but now I realize that it sucked. I hope no one minds the changes I made.--RLXsig.jpg 14:21, June 27, 2014 (UTC)
I think that your reducing the reliance of the Censorship gimmick was a good thing. Spıke Ѧ 14:54 27-Jun-14
I'm glad you liked it, I thought I could see where you were going with the article. It reminded me of a better version of Kentuckistan, as far as US states as alternate realities go. What I loved was the monarchy (why Sultans and not Kings?), recreational drugs made by large drug companies, I also thought that the irony of there being a gay paradise (Gay Parish) in such a homophobic state was extremely funny.--Athlete logo 2.jpg 16:05, June 30, 2014 (UTC)
Nice, I'm glad to see someone liked my ideas. The Sultan thing, I was thinking since South Carolina is such a religious state, why shouldn't it have a Sultan like places in the middle east used to have. Religion is the source of what is messed up about both places (I think). With the recreational drugs, I was just thinking I would live in a place like that. A place that has legal drugs would probably have a more effective pharmaceutical industry as well. The Gay Parish was just to make Myrtle Beach more interesting.--RLXsig.jpg 13:43, July 8, 2014 (UTC)
I like it. I see you've done a college article in the past and you seem to have an opinion on the medical industry, would you like to give me a hand with the Medical University of South Carolina article that I am thinking about starting (I don't even care if you write it)? If not, I think I know where to go with that one, it will just take me a while.--Athlete logo 2.jpg 22:33, July 10, 2014 (UTC)
