Formerly Forum:I made a parody article about Awkwafina. I am afraid to post it on her because my family said it was "too offensive"

I thought what I wrote was pretty funny, theres a wikipedia article about her, but I am not sure if I should put it on here. What if I hurt her feelings? What if she sues me? Is it okay if I paste an example of what I have so far? Please help. --Calamity-Sanity (talk) 08:31, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

If you want to write about Awkwafina (and I see there is a wikipedia article about her) you need to come up with a different comedic angle. It can range from a besotted fan to a serious faced contributor who thinks Awkwafina is the end of civilisation. Just don't do a copy & paste job from wikipedia to here. Hope that's clear. Would you like me to show you an example of what I have so far? Let me know if it's funny enough or too offensive--Calamity-Sanity (talk) 08:46, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

If "offensive" means libelous (for example, alleging in apparent seriousness that Awkwafina committed a crime), we will delete it. The other problem with "offensive" is that readers are unlikely to be entertained if they are mostly offended. See the list at the end of CoW#Extremists.
Your family's reaction seems to have put you on a mission to publish. Why don't you work to understand why they called it offensive and make it less so?
Put it in userspace, at User:Calamity-Sanity/Awkwafina, not in the main encyclopedia, and we will comment. Spıke 🎙️09:33 6-Jun-23
Okay, so my opinion on the current draft is that it is well within the range of offensive Uncyclopedia articles — in fact, "deaf community" and "a handicapped man" (an "encyclopedia article" would give his name!) seem to be showy attempts to avoid being offensive. "Best comedian of all time" in the lede spoil the encyclopedia cover joke without being terribly funny; yes, I know it's irony, but now you have me reading it looking for your opinion rather than a laugh. Her name versus Aquafina bottled water begs to be drawn out in a funny way, not just mentioned in passing. Now, apart from what you are trying to achieve, what does the article-writer believe: that Awkwafina is very good or very bad? Spıke 🎙️11:37 6-Jun-23

Does that mean you would like the article to be less offensive? The fictitious article-writer believes that Awkwafina is a terrible comedian, but was hired by Hollywood or something to write good things about her. I am not completely sure how I would improve this, maybe this was just a bad idea to begin with? I kind of feel bad for Awkwafina, she gets told all the time she's doing great while Hollywood shields her from constructive criticism. I am not sure how some Uncyclopeida article will make her realize what's going on.--Calamity-Sanity (talk) 13:34, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

Oh, please don't write to Make A Difference In The Community! We have not had a measurable effect in the alleged real world since the Greggs controversy. All I'm saying is: Make sure the tone of your writing answers that question (the writer's beliefs) consistently. Without ever saying what they are, only gently tugging your reader to draw that conclusion "for himself." Spıke 🎙️14:24 6-Jun-23
I would say try anything out as the article is your own space for now. You can invite myself or Spike to have a look at it once you have managed to wrap the article up. Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 14:47, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

I added more to the article, I am not sure what I would add to it or what appropriate images to find for it. I would greatly appreciate help in improving it, you have my permission to edit my sandbox.--Calamity-Sanity (talk) 05:23, 7 June 2023 (UTC)

Good enough for mainspace[edit]

The article now is on par with typical Uncyclopedia articles for length and comedy strategy. I do not believe it is too "offensive" (you should see what we did to Islam and African-Americans). But there are some gaping holes:

  • Needs pix now.
  • The Intro has gotten weaker: Second sentence talks about subject's feelings to make a comedy point, but we don't know them and an "encyclopedia article" wouldn't discuss them.
  • Section headings: Don't capitalize words except proper names (a Wikipedia rule) and DON'T SHOUT.
  • The tone of a lot of the article is you the stand-up comedian, jiving with the reader; not an "encyclopedia article." Stay in character! Don't offer the writer's opinions (real or hypocritical) but coax the reader to those positions.
  • The final section sucks. I know, the article is a writer writing stuff he doesn't believe in — a difficult trick to pull off — but if you did it well, you would not have to have a final section explaining the joke to the reader. Spıke 🎙️11:20 7-Jun-23
Thank you so much for the help. I am still struggling to find the pictures, I also do not know how to use photoshop. Could you please help me with the pics?--Calamity-Sanity (talk) 13:33, 7 June 2023 (UTC)

For that, please read Uncyclopedia:Image use policy. You might not have to upload the photos. You certainly don't need to 'shoop them, provided you write a funny caption. Or, wait; Romartus sometimes wanders in and illustrates other people's articles. Spıke 🎙️20:05 7-Jun-23

I showed it to my mom and she told me to take it down. I am really worried now that I have permanently damaged my reputation and no one will ever forgive me. What if Awkwafina wants to get a job somewhere else but this ruins it? Should I take this down? Help.--Calamity-Sanity (talk) 23:23, 7 June 2023 (UTC)

You have not permanently damaged your reputation at Uncyclopedia. If you have permanently damaged your reputation in your family, we can't help you with that. If Awkwafina thinks an assertion of untruths at a comedy wiki is poisoning her career, and complains to us, we would delete or correct the article, as we have done a handful of times in the last decade. Spıke 🎙️23:31 7-Jun-23

I am very ashamed now at what I have done. God is telling me that I have made a grave mistake. Maybe we should delete it before she sees it? How do you delete your own Uncyclopedia article?--Calamity-Sanity (talk) 23:45, 7 June 2023 (UTC)
