System 6 was released in 1988.
Black and White continued to be a trend (except if you're Microsoft). Infact, Black and White-ness lasted as late as 1999 in terms of technology. Like the previous systems, nothing really changed here that much, just a few features being introduced.
Features[edit]
MacroMaker[edit]
MacroMaker allows you to narrate your voice and record mouse stuff. For 1988, it was very advanced for it's time and didn't even need modems! It was essentially a built in tape recorder and was easily very successful. It would remain in future versions of Mac OS.
Multitasking[edit]
Multitasking sort of existed with System 2 in 1985, but it wasn't popular until System 6 came, when it was used widely for most of the time, since it was easier to do. I mean, come on! No-one likes doing hard stuff!
MultiFinder[edit]
MultiFinder was Apple's way of multitasking in a different way. It also allowed you to switch operating systems. Don't know why Apple would let you do that but okay.
Hardware Support[edit]
Hardware Support was much better with System 6 as you could now use a PC printer with a Mac! Interesting that Apple seems to surrender when it comes to these things.
ImageWriter[edit]
ImageWriter was a product line of printers. While technically, it isn't related to System 6, it is still important to the Operating System.
