THE UNITED STATES -- Users of the infamous 4Chan group of computer hackers have gone low-tech in their latest vandalism campaign. Their target is a general poke at business establishments suspected of being owned or operated by white-supremacists, anti-Semites and others of their ilk.
Across the United States, Army-Navy Surplus Stores, BBQ restaurants, the Crawford Ranch, country-western bars and others have had signs reworded or new ones installed, proclaiming inane statements in l33t sp33k. In some locations, graffiti and the flaming peace symbols styled after the Ku Klux Klan burning crosses, were epidemic.
This latest attack by alleged anonymous 4Chan users is reminiscent of a similar incident three years ago by users of 4chan and other websites. In this attack, "they "raided" Hal Turner by launching DDoS attacks and prank calling his phone-in radio show during December 2006 and January 2007. The attacks caused Turner's website to go offline. This cost thousands of dollars of bandwidth bills according to Turner. In response, Turner sued 4chan, 7chan, and other websites; however, he lost his plea for an injunction and failed to receive letters from the court."[1]
Many of the anonymous members of 4Chan, AKA The Internet Hate Machine, are known to be "young white angst-ridden males with masturbatory fixations[2]", and in this reporters opinion, are probably not very dangerous. "The Guardian once summarized the 4chan community as "lunatic, juvenile... brilliant, ridiculous and alarming.[3]"" However, if you do see one on the road, then certainly kill him.
